Why futsal

The game that
builds ballers

Futsal is 5-a-side football on a hard court with a smaller, low-bounce ball. There's nowhere to hide and no time to wait — every player is constantly on the ball, under pressure, making decisions.

It's the environment that shaped generations of the world's most technical players across Brazil, Argentina, Spain, and Portugal — and it's the foundation of everything we do.

What players build here

01 · Foundation

Touch

A smaller, heavier ball and tight spaces mean thousands of extra touches — first touch, sole rolls, both feet, every session.

02 · Game IQ

Decisions

With defenders always a step away, players learn to scan, think, and choose faster than the game around them.

03 · Tempo

Speed of play

Quick combinations, one-two touches, and constant movement train a tempo that makes the outdoor game feel slow.

04 · Identity

Confidence

Players who master the ball in tight spaces stop hiding from it in matches. They want it. That changes everything.

Coaches who
live futsal

Every session at So Cal Futsal Academy is planned with a purpose. Coaches Julio Rubio and Alfonso Flores build training around ball mastery, small-sided games, and real match scenarios — with small groups so every player gets touches, feedback, and attention.

Our teams also compete in regional and national futsal tournaments, giving players real competitive experiences beyond weekly training.

Questions parents ask

FAQ

Can my child try a session before committing?

Yes — that's exactly what drop-in sessions are for. Book a $45 drop-in on a Tuesday or Wednesday, come meet the coaches, and let your player experience a real training session before joining a program.

What ages do you train?

We currently train boys and girls born 2014 through 2021. Groups are organized by birth year and level — see the schedule for which group trains when.

What does my child need to bring?

Futsal shoes (flat, non-marking indoor soles) are the most important piece of equipment. Bring water and shin guards too. After registration, our staff will guide you through uniform ordering.

What's the difference between Premier and Select teams?

Premier teams focus on development in a supportive, growth-oriented environment. Select teams are for players seeking a higher level of competition and commitment, training at a faster pace and competing in leagues and tournaments. Placement is based on age, experience, and readiness.

How will I receive schedules and updates?

Registered team families receive schedules, game times, and announcements through TeamSnap. Drop-in families receive session details and any schedule-change notifications by email or text using the contact info provided at booking.

Where do sessions take place?

We train at two Van Nuys locations: 14933 Calvert St (Tuesdays & Wednesdays) and Valley School at 15700 Sherman Way (Fridays). Directions are on our locations page.
